Before you begin:
Make sure you have all the necessary pieces of equipment and information before you begin to setup DIR-816 router.
1. A PC with any operating system which supports a web browser.
A web browser to access the web-based interface of the D-Link router:
- Apple Safari 8 or later
- Google Chrome 48 or later
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 or later
- Mozilla Firefox or later
- Opera 35 or later
2. A USB modem
3. An Ethernet or wifi adapter to connect to the router.
Initial setup to setup DIR-816 router:
Step 1: Position your router near to your modem which is connected to the internet and PC. Try to keep your router in an open area for better wireless coverage.
Step 2: Unplug the Ethernet cable of the modem which is connected to the computer and plug it on the back of the router into the port labeled as ‘INTERNET.’ Now, you have to connect the adapter to the D-Link router and a power outlet.
Step 3: Now, take another Ethernet cable and plug one of it into the port labeled ‘1’ on the back of the router and the other end into the Ethernet port on the back of your router.
Setup DIR-816 router via the web-based interface:
The setup wizard will guide you through a process to configure your D-Link router and you can change the language from the drop-down menu in the top right corner of the page.
Step1: Open a web browser such as internet explorer and enter the default IP address of the D-Link router i.e. http://192.168.0.1 into its address bar and press ‘Enter’ key.
Wait while your D-Link router automatically detects your internet connection type. You may enter the additional information such as username and password depending upon your internet connection type.
Step 2: If your router detects the internet connection but it fails to detect its internet connection type then click on the ‘Guide me through the Internet connection settings’ to display a list of internet connection type.
Step 3: Select your internet connection type: dynamic IP address or PPPoE connection.
Step 4: Enter the required information and click ‘next’ to continue.
Step 5: Create an SSID for your wireless network for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless bands.
Step 6: Create a password to access the web-based configuration interface in order to secure your router. Enter the password in the given field and click ‘Next’ to continue.
Step 7: A confirmation window will appear to show the completion of the setup DIR-816 router, click ‘Next’ to continue.
With that, your D-Link DIR-816 is successfully installed and is ready to use.
